Founded in 1981, the Center School is a toddler through grade 8 independent school serving the Pioneer Valley of western Massachusetts. Experiencing significant growth and possessing a strong mission-driven desire to build upon and sustain its ability to meet the diverse needs of its students, GCS was forced to look at its facilities' future anew.
In 2017, GCS retained KSC to perform a comprehensive facilities and growth feasibility study geared towards defining the programmatic, locational, and funding options available to the school and the most effective route to pursue them. Subsequently, KSC’s analysis of a Capital Project’s scope, cost, funding, and timing led to a clear definition of the school’s institutional capacities and the decision to relocate and develop a new campus as well as define the sources of funding and financing.
The Organizational Assessment & Capacities Study gave rise to KSC’s coordination and oversight of an extensive site search resulting in the acquisition of 30 acres of rolling, forested land in Greenfield, MA.
Construction of a 23,500sf new classroom/admin building, athletic fields, play areas, and numerous outdoor learning environments was completed in the summer of 2021.
“Kevin was an absolute godsend from feasibility study to groundbreaking through to opening our new campus. He holds your hand every step of the way, is reliable, confident, reassuring and trustworthy. He is a true partner and advocate of the Head of School and the board. Kevin knows schools inside and out. He’s got such an enormous breadth of experience, which makes a huge difference. He’s a great listener and equally great advice giver. Want a cheerleader/mentor/guardian project manager? Kevin’s your person!
