Established in 2010, KSC provides integrated project coordination services that include feasibility, planning, design, development, advancement, team and community coordination for schools in the process of growth and strategic reflection and refinement.
Capital Project Coordination
Schools are not in the real estate development business. Nor should they be.
But we are. KSC’s role is to help bridge the structural, financial, governmental, community, and academic elements of the process. In partnership with KSC,
schools remain focused on the business-at-hand: caring for students,
not running a construction company.
• Project feasibility studies
• Financial analysis / budgeting
• Owner representation / advocacy
• Head of School / administration / trustee support and coaching
• Capital Project coordination: site selection & acquisition, planning, design, permitting, construction management, team oversight, financing & fundraising organization
Three things we know for sure when it comes to funding growth: strategic visions aren't cheap; school budgets are lean and growing leaner; and, capital campaigns are labor, time, and skill intensive. KSC helps maximize a school's giving and financing capacity and, in turn, a capital project's financial viability.
• Campaign feasibility studies
• Campaign design / goal setting
• Campaign setup / training / mentoring
• Gift / pledge tracking; progress reporting
• Campaign event coordination
• Prospective donor cultivation,
stewardship and oversight
Institutional growth and change are motivated by an array of forces, such as the need for new programming, increased and more diverse enrollment, upgraded facilities, fiscal stability, a strategic vision or mission clarity. Whatever the driver, KSC facilitates growth and change by bridging the gap between a school’s current and desired states of being.
• Whole school assessment
• Staff development
• Parent education
• Program / curriculum development
• Transition management
• Strategic planning / goal setting
Growth / Support
Capital Projects are a whole-school response to a compelling need. They are brought to fruition by a transformative vision of what can be. If well executed, the benefits are immediate in impact, broad in reach, and generational in duration. From the very start, project success depends on the demonstrated existence of five core institutional capacities: Leadership. Administrative. Financial. Community. Giving.
KSC has completed, and is in various stages of coordinating, Capital Projects totaling $25 million in occupied and projected value.
Capital Campaigns serve to advance a school’s mission by creating an air of relational altruism: a community of giving. Such a benevolent atmosphere enables a campaign or project to extend its reach and impact well beyond the immediate objectives. Thus, Capital Campaigns are often the engines behind successful near and long-term change and the realization of a school's full potential.
With KSC’s support, schools have raised/are raising over $6.0 million to support capital projects. In addition, we helped secure over $9.0 million in construction/permanent financing.
Structurally, independent schools are often administratively lean and operationally stressed. Therefore, proper support attuned to their needs and aspirations in times of change—be it programmatic or physical expansion, strategic planning and visioning or leadership and the transitional spaces change creates—can be critical.
KSC has guided Heads of School, administrative teams, faculty and parent communities, and boards of trustees—including community-based non-profits—through times of proactive or reflective need. Through observation, interviews, and close internal analysis and assessment, all viewed through a highly experiential educational lens, KSC helps a school articulate and act upon existing tensions and goals.
Kevin S. Campbell, Principal
Merging more than two decades of teaching and administrative experience at the early childhood through university levels with a prior background in real estate development, Kevin oversees KSC's entire scope of services through an integrated, mission-driven approach to supporting schools in transition.
Kevin possesses a BA and MA in Education. And in his evolving roles as teacher, program founder, Head of School, adjunct professor, presenter, and consultant, he has guided numerous schools in their physical, educational, and fiscal maturation.
Kevin brings extensive education, business and fiscal acumen – fundraising, project planning and oversight, school management, administrative support, teacher training, and classroom teaching – to bear upon on how best to serve school's in the most respectful manner possible. The results are school communities that grow and give, operating and project budgets that balance, programs that inspire and fully enroll, facilities that energize and affirm, staff and faculty that reflect upon and deepen their practice, students that engage possibility and embrace independence, and whole school environments that strive toward shared goals and values.
